Ernst Troeltsch : un dépassement des «lumières» / Ernst Troeltsch : Beyond the "Enlightenment"

Troeltsch's works are linked to the modem project of the Enlightenment and of the historicism that followed in its steps, at the same time, his problematic can lead to a reflexive reevaluation. Troeltsch does analyse modernity with a critical eye, but his is an internal criticism. His work may aptly be described as an example of "second-degree historicism". Troeltsch's reading of modernity places it in a wide genealogical perspective, especially as far as the religious problematic is concerned. He stresses and analyses the internal differenciations of modern society, the pole constituted by the individual subject, as well as the ambivalence at work everywhere. He concludes his analysis with the project of a "cultural synthesis of the present" yet to be achieved with the tools offered by a philosophy of history combined to a philosophy of religion that is to be distinct both from theology and from the science of religion.L'oeuvre de Troeltsch s'inscrit dans le projet moderne des Lumières européennes et l'historicisme qui l'a prolongé, tout en en proposant une problématisation pouvant ouvrir sur une reprise reflexive. Si Troeltsch instruit bien une critique de la modernité, il s'agit donc d'une critique interne. On peut parler à son propos d'"historicisme de deuxième degré". Troeltsch y relit la modernité dans une perspective généalogique large, et notamment en fonction de la problématique religieuse. Les différenciations internes à la société moderne, le pôle de l'individu ou du sujet et l'ambivalence de toutes choses sont ici soulignés et réfléchis. Troeltsch ouvre au final sur une "synthèse culturelle du présent", à instaurer, et selon une philosophie de l'histoire conjointe à une philosophie de la religion (distincte d'une théologie à proprement parler ainsi que distincte des sciences religieuses).La obra de Troeltsch se inscribe en el proyecto moderno del siglo de las Luces europeo e historicista al tiempo que propone una problemática que puede permitir el desarrollo de una dinámica reflexiva. Si Troeltsch intruye bien una crítica de la modernidad, se trata, por lo tanto, de una crítica interna. Podemos hablar, refiriéndonos su obra, de un «historicismo de segundo grado». Troeltsch relee la modernidad a partir de una perspectiva genealógica amplia y, sobre todo, en función de la problemática religiosa. Las diferenciaciones internas propias de la sociedad moderna, el polo del individuo o del sujeto y la ambivalencia de toda la realidad es señalado y reflexionado.
